For further information on this category please go to the ANZSIC web site TourismProvision of tourist facilities, activities or related services.Good Access is Good BusinessThis category awards businesses which have introduced initiatives to ensure their products and services are accessible to people with a disability. Approximately 35% of the population have a temporary or permanent disability and choose their shopping, business and tourist destinations according to ease of access and quality of service. Consequently businesses benefit from ensuring they provide the highest level of access to the greatest number of people. Examples of good access include providing a ramp or flat entry into their shop or office, ensuring there is enough space for people who use wheelchairs or mobility scooters to move around freely, having accessible toilet facilities available, displaying clear readable signage and providing good acoustics (no echo with minimal sound reverberation) to assist people who are hard of hearing. For further information about ‘Good Access Is Good Business’ principles, please contact the Rural Access Project Officer at your local Council.
